The Seekers
Rev. Don Black (Pastor Emeritus) offers the following description of the group. "The Seekers are members of our congregation who meet once a month on a Sunday afternoon, seeking a closer relationship with God. All have had difficulties relating some theological concepts of God with contemporary knowledge. The Seekers group numbers from 10 to 22 person, depending on the season. It is a group where you can safely ask questions you have always had but have been afraid to ask, for fear you might be ostracized or excommunicated…or worse. I serve as the discussion leader, but the group pretty much goes its own way. Needless to say, the discussion is lively, and is accompanied by a lot of laughter, as well as moments of serious seeking.
Discussion revolves around a book chosen by all the members of the group. The current book is United Methodist Bishop Sprague’s Affirmations of a Dissenter. Other books studied have been Episcopal Church Bishop Shelby Spong’s books, Christianity Must Change or Die, and Sins of Scripture. The next book will be Christianity for The Rest of Us, by Dianne Butler Bass, currently a professor at Virginia Theological Seminary.
If this sounds like something you would be interested in, you are welcome to give the group a try."
